‘Teletubbies’ Giggling Sun: Jess Smith’s Salary Revealed
If you were born in or before the mid-90’s, chances are you remember — and maybe even watched — the British children’s show, Teletubbies.
One of the best parts of the show was when the sun came out for the Teletubbies, because it featured a very cute baby giggling and smiling down at them!
Now, at 19 years old, a British college student named Jess Smith has revealed that she was that baby, reports the Daily Mail.
But the real surprise is that Jess was paid almost nothing for her role. The baby actress took home approximately $388 — and a box of toys.
Ouch.
Jess Claims The Show Wasn’t Expected To Be A Hit
So, how did the Teletubbies get away with paying Jess and her parents practically nothing for a television show that aired for four years in the United States?
“No one knew how big the show was going to be so we didn’t get offered royalties,” Jess explained.
And, to make matters worse, Jess missed out on what could have been an incredibly lucrative modeling career.
“People told my mum that I should have gone into modeling but she thought it wasn’t the right move to make as I was quite shy.”
However, she doesn’t seem to mind any of this. In fact, she’s studying dance education at Canterbury Christ Church University, and seems to be quite content with her child acting history being just that — history.
