Cool C’s Execution Date — Rapper On Death Row Will Be Killed In 2015
Cool C, who was once a member of the rap group C.E.B., was initially given a death date of March 9, 2006. However, the governor of Pennsylvania granted a delay on Cool C’s execution. He has now been issued a new date — Jan. 8, 2015. He is expected to be executed by lethal injection at the State Correctional Institution-Greene.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett signed the death warrant on Friday, Nov. 21. Cool C, whose legal name is Christopher Rooney, will be the first person executed in Pennsylvania since 1999.
Cool C: Convicted Of First-Degree Murder In 1996
Cool C was convicted of first-degree murder in the Jan. 2, 1996 death of Lauretha Vaird, 43, a nine-year veteran who responded to the heist at PNC Bank on Rising Sun Ave.
The rapper, who’s best known for his hits “Glamorous Life” and “Life in the Ghetto,” has maintained he’s innocent. Cool C’s mother said she was making him breakfast when the bank robbery occurred, but the conviction was upheld on an appeal in 2005, according to the New York Daily News.
