‘The Fosters’ Premiere: Will Callie Meet Her Biological Father?
The Season 1 finale of The Fosters was jam-packed, and it’s all about to unfold. Lena (Sherri Saum) is pregnant, but there’s also another new parent-child relationship to look forward to: Callie meets her biological dad. But Callie isn’t looking forward to the introduction.
“Callie really isn’t wanting to know much about Robert [Quinn],” her dad, played by Dawson’s Creek alum Kerr Smith, Maia tells our sister site TVLine.com. “In her mind, it’s literally a sperm donor and that’s it.”
Callie is concerned with her own adoption with the Fosters, but not meeting her own father. “If she had her way, she would never put a face to his name. She doesn’t want to open another door and not know what’s on the other side of it,” Maia continues. “For Callie, now it’s really about the adoption and how can we get this happening, especially now that Jude’s been adopted. She really sees the effect that it has on Jude, knowing that he’s been adopted and she hasn’t. That’s really where her head’s at. She’s not so interested in knowing who this Robert Quinn person is.”
Certainly understandable. Meeting your father for the first time, at age 16, has got to be hard, but it sounds like Callie might begin to form some sort of relationship with him.
“As she learns more about him, she realizes that it really wasn’t his choice. He didn’t abandon her,” the actress tells the site. “You see her very, very slowly soften and kind of warm to him, but I don’t think she really wants a father-daughter relationship at any point.”
Callie & Wyatt Become ‘More Intimate’ In Season 2
The relationship between Robert and Callie isn’t the only one on the horizon. We can’t forget about Callie and Wyatt! Their romance is going strong, and during the difficult time with her father, Callie leans on her boyfriend. But Maia admits, there’s a bumpy road coming up.
‘You will see a bit of a hiccup later on in the season,” she tells TVLine. “They’re starting to be more intimate, and as young people, they’re exploring their sexuality. For Callie, that brings up some stuff in her past with Liam. That physical threat, she still feels that whenever she’s intimate. That’s definitely something she’s going to have to address and work through moving forward to other relationships. You see a lot of issues from Callie’s past that she’s going to have to address.”
Callie sure has a lot to deal with — but rest assured, despite their “hiccup,” her and Wyatt are there for each other.
“You do see them on solid ground. You see them enjoying each other. It’s definitely young love. They have really strong feelings for each other. He’s such a great guy, and she trusts that he has her best interests at heart.”
The Fosters Season 2 premieres on Monday, June 16 (9/8c) on ABC Family, after a brand new episode of Switched At Birth.
