‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot In The Works For 2016
The Powerpuff Girls will return to Cartoon Network in 2016, the network announced. “The original ‘Powerpuff Girls’ was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” said Rob Sorcher, Chief Content Officer for Cartoon Network in a statement. “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”
“As the original ambassador of girl power, The Powerpuff Girls brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation,” said Pete Yoder, Vice President of Consumer Products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises.
How exciting is that?! It’s so fabulous that The Powerpuff Girls are returning — young girls need female superheroes on their TV screens!
‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Special ‘Dance Pantsed’ May Have Been A Hint At Their Return
So, it looks like “Dance Pantsed,” the Powerpuff Girls special released in Jan. 2014, was not just a one-off after all, and may have been a trial run! Just 23 minutes long, it was a self-contained episode which saw the girls return with an updated animation style reminiscent of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
Funnily enough, Powerpuff Girls creators Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust had no part in “Dance Pantsed” because they went on to develop My Little Pony. Their influence must have remained long after their departure!
