OTF Nunu: Rapper Gunned Down In Chicago
Swindle was in his SUV in the mall parking lot when the assailant opened fire on him, Cook County police told the Chicago Sun-Times. The rapper tried to drive away from the scene, according to Complex, but eventually crashed his vehicle into a window-front after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. The police suggested that Swindle’s murder may have been gang-related, though his aunt, Sherri Swindle, insisted that the rapper wasn’t involved in any gangs.
Swindle was in the middle of working on his mixtape, tentatively titled Nuski Got Da Strap, when he was gunned down. His cousin Lil Durk, also a rapper, had released a song featuring him just days before the shooting.
“This was going to be his big breakout project,” Merk Murphy, who runs a studio where Swindle was recording tracks, told the Sun-Times. “He was one of those kids who saw an opportunity to put himself in a better position with his music.”
After adding that her nephew was also taking college courses in Joliet, Ill., Sherri Swindle pleaded for an end to gun violence in Chicago, and in the rap community as a whole — with his murder, OTF Nunu unfortunately joins Lil Snupe and Doe B as emcees who have been shot and killed in the past year. “It needs to stop,” the aunt said. “He was a good person. He was a kindhearted person. He had a lot of soul.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with OTF Nunu’s friends and family during this tragic time.
