Purdue Shooter, 23, Kills Popular Teaching Assistant, Andrew Boldt, 21

So tragic. A shooting at Purdue University in West Lafeyette, Ind., on Jan. 21 has left one person dead. New details of the case reveal that he was not a random victim. Police immediately responded when shots were fired at the electrical engineering building at Purdue University around noon on Jan. 21. Cody M. Cousins, 23, is being charged with the murder of fellow TA Andrew Boldt, who was only 21. "He appeared to have been targeted by the suspect and it was no more or no less than that," Purdue University Police Chief John Cox told reporters at a press conference on Jan. 21.

Purdue Shooting Victim — Shooter Had A Motive

Police Chief John Cox said 4-5 gunshots were reportedly fired inside the building. Then Cody, a senior, came outside and turned himself in to police.

Although he turned himself in with no protest, the Police Chief said he was offering “little to no cooperation” with those who were questioning him after the arrest.

Police Look for Motive in Shooting

“Cody was a student in the College of Engineering and has been booked into the Tippecanoe County jail on a preliminary charge of murder,” the Police Chief added during the press conference.

Victim Andrew Boldt Described As A Brilliant Mind

A former high school teacher of Andrew Boldt told the Associated Press he was a “brilliant mind” who dreamed of attending Purdue.

The school, which has approximately 30,000 undergraduate students, was completely cleared after the shooting and was on lockdown for two hours. After the lockdown was lifted, classes were scheduled to resume.

Just after the shooting, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Timothy D. Sands, Ph.D. said in a press conference:

“Right now, since the incident is confined to the electrical engineering building, classes are back in session. We feel like we have control of the situation.”

Soon after, classes were cancelled for the day.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Andrew at this time.
