The NYPD initially offered a $10,000 reward for any information on the suspect, and the details released included that the gunman fled the scene on an electric Citi bike and was seen heading toward Central Park. Investigators also reported that the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” were found on the shell casings at the scene, according to police sources who spoke to ABC News.

On Dec. 6, NYPD investigators found a backpack in Central Park that they believe belonged to the suspect. The backpack is being taken for forensic testing at a lab in Queens, according to a law enforcement official. Inside the bag were only two items: a Tommy Hilfiger jacket and Monopoly money.

Now, on Dec. 9, Pennsylvania police are questioning Luigi Mangione, a “strong person of interest,” as the potential killer of the UnitedHealthcare CEO. The 26-year-old was picked up at a McDonald’s in Altoona after an employee thought he resembled the man in New York Police Department photos and called police, the officials said. He had a gun, silencer, four fake IDs.

During a press conference on Dec.4, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted, “This does not appear to be a random act of violence. Every indication is that this was a premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack.” Tisch also pointed out that the suspect was seen near the Hilton Hotel and “appeared to wait for his intended target” while other people walked by just before 7 a.m. on December 4.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette, spoke with NBC News shortly after her husband died, and she revealed he had been receiving “some threats.”

“There had been some threats. Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage?” Paulette told the outlet. “I don’t know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him. … I can’t really give a thoughtful response right now. I just found this out and I’m trying to console my children.”
