Meghan Trainor confessed she was ‘planning’ and ‘hoping’ for her first pregnancy in this EXCLUSIVE new interview! The star also talked about her charitable work with Safeguard.
Meghan Trainor, 26, is in a state of bliss! The pregnant singer is currently 25 weeks along and she and husband Daryl Sabara, 28, and it turns out the couple already have a name picked out. “We kind of picked the name before. We were always like, ‘I don’t know, it could be this.’ We picked it before we knew the gender even,” Meghan spilled to HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY during an Instagram Live chat. “We have this one name that we love. That’s the only thing I’m keeping a secret because I’m terrible. I tell everything to everybody. We’re like, ‘Let’s have a goal and keep the name!'”
Although she’s keeping the names under wraps, the Nantucket, Massachusetts native has already confirmed she’s having a boy! “[The name] should be a name that everyone’s more familiar with. I never wanted something really unique and crazy,” she also shared. “I also like names where I don’t know a single person with that name. I don’t want to relate him to anybody else. I want him to be the only name. I’m going to slip it out…. I’m not going to say it!” she confirmed.
Meghan confirmed her pregnancy last month on the Today Show. The singer married Daryl — who iconically played Juni Cortez in Spy Kids — back in Dec. 2018, and it turns out the couple were planning for their pregnancy before it happened. “I was planning it so I was hoping for it. I was trying to not get my hopes up. Every time you’re taking the test and hoping that you’re pregnant,” she excitedly said. “It was the one time I was like, ‘I’m definitely not,’ and then it was like, ‘I am?!’ (crying). We were so excited and just laughed cried all day long. I told everyone which I shouldn’t have done, but it was great!”
The “All About That Bass” singer has jumped into full-on holiday mode on her Instagram, partially to promote her upcoming Christmas album A Very Trainor Christmas which dropped on Oct. 30. Luckily for Meghan, the holidays also means plenty of desserts are around — which just so happens to be her pregnancy craving! “I’m usually a salty girl and I just want sweets. Sweets weren’t a thing that was in my life before,” she confessed, noting she’s traded in her chips for baked goods. “It was always like I want a bag of chips at night. But now, it’s like, I want a brownie or I want Oreos,” she added.
While Meghan’s definitely tempted to indulge, she did explain that she’s keeping her health in mind. “I have to eat healthy and watch out for gestational diabetes,” she told HL. “That runs in my family when we get pregnant. I have to be extra safe. I’ve been making sugar free snacks and sugar free brownies and trying to learn how to bake,” she explained.
Giving back is also top of mind for Meghan this year, and the star partnered with Safeguard, who surprised teachers with $10 million worth of products. “That was amazing. They donated $10M worth of product in things like hand soap and resources which was amazing, but surprising the teachers was so special and such an honor and something I will never forget for the rest of my life because my dad was a teacher,” she shared. “I always loved teachers to the point where I was like, ‘OK, if I don’t do music, I’ll be a teacher.’ I think they’re heroes right now, especially right now because Covid has not gone away and it’s not gotten easier…Safeguard is providing hand washing lessons where they teach the kids you’ve got to wash your hands for 20 seconds at least and they’re also donating products to the classrooms and gift cards,” she said.
