Lorde Stands By Disses To Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift
“I think there’s a funny culture in music that’s only happened over the last 15 years, that if you have an opinion about something in music that isn’t 100-percent good, you’re a ‘hater,’ even if you have perfectly reasonable grounds for that critique,” she told MTV News on Oct 8. “People will say exactly what they think about a movie or a TV show, and that’s fine, but as soon as you say it about a record, you’re like some little zombie in a funny dungeon.”
After the intense backlash from Justin, Selena and Taylor’s fanbases that disagreed with Lorde’s public opinions of the singers, did she feel the need to clarify her thoughts with that statement?
“I have pretty strong morals and opinions being in pop music, and I can’t help but express those, which I think people appreciate,” she continued. “I mean, I don’t think I say anything that isn’t backed up. Most of the time I will stand by things that I’ve said.”
Lorde has spoken! Although she did slightly apologize about her comments regarding Taylor on her Tumblr, is she backtracking on that apology as well and standing by her original opinions?
We appreciate her honesty — but she might not make many friends in the music biz if she keeps calling other artists out!
Lorde Insults Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift & Justin Bieber
Lorde first dissed Justin, 19, on July 18 to MTV News when she said, “I feel like the influences that are there in the industry for people my age, like Justin Bieber or whatever, are just maybe not a very real depiction of what it’s like to be a young person.” Many Beliebers weren’t happy with that statement!
She then dissed his ex-girlfriend, Selena, 21, during a Sept. 28 radio interview, when she said she didn’t approve of her song “Come and Get It.” “I’m a feminist, and the theme of her song is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.” Ouch!
As for Taylor, 23, Lorde quipped that she was “too flawless and unattainable,” in the Oct. issue of New Zealand’s Metro magazine.
Lorde really spoke her mind and isn’t backing down! We wonder if she’ll diss any other musicians in her age range soon!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you think it’s good that Lorde is standing by her opinions or should she apologize to the other artists she dissed? Sound off!
