Celebs Who Used Surrogates To Have Babies — Many celebrities have decided to go the surrogacy route for their pregnancies. Stars have had an array of reasons for using surrogates, from health concerns to fertility issues and more.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West went the surrogacy route twice – once for their daughter Chicago, and again for baby boy Psalm. So why has the reality star chosen to go the surrogacy route after carrying North and Saint herself? It was no longer safe for her to deliver her kids because Kim has the condition placenta accrete. This makes the placenta hard to detach from the uterine wall and remove during birth.

“My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails,” she said of the experience. “How disgusting and painful.”

“I have always tried to be as transparent as possible about my life,” he shared on his show. “I overshare and I expect everyone tonight to do the same. Robert De Niro — Robert De Niro has six kids, and half of them were born to surrogates. He welcomed his sons Julian Henry and Aaron Kendrick in 1995 when the actor was in a relationship with Toukie Smith. After conceiving their twins through IVF, a gestational carrier delivered them.

While he and his wife Gracie Hightower were able to welcome their son Elliot on their own in 1998, they used a surrogate for their daughter Helen Grace in 2011.

Ellen Pompeo — Ellen Pompeo has kept her lips pretty zipped about her surrogacy journey – which she pointed out is the same thing she did when she married her husband.

“I am the same girl who had the mayor of New York City marry me and it didn’t get out for five days,” she reminded fans. While she hasn’t said anything about who carried her daughter Stella Luna, she was definitely delivered via a surrogate. As for whether she went through the same process to welcome her other daughter Sienna May, the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actress hasn’t said either way.

Faith Margaret was born in 2010. The actress opened up about her decision, saying, “I’ve experienced motherhood in so many different ways. I’ve experienced adoption, birthing a child and I’ve experienced surrogacy. I’m like when it comes to it, I just wanna be a mama. I suppose my maternal instincts and drive has always been there since I was little … and that’s a huge driving force of who I am, which is why I probably played it out in so many different ways. I am a mother because I love being a mother.”

“We’ve been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so,” she said when she was waiting on their 2009 arrival. “This was one of the things we discussed with seriousness that had real possibilities for us.”

The actor hasn’t opened up very much about their surrogacy journey, which makes sense considering his marriage wasn’t made public for three years.
