During a recent appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, the “Firework” hitmaker revealed the reason why she and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor briefly split.

Why Did Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Break Up?

During her “Call Her Daddy” interview, Katy explained that she and Orlando were on different paths at the beginning of their relationship.

“We weren’t really in it from day one,” the pop singer admitted. “He was because he had just done a huge time of celibacy and he had set intentions. I was fresh out of a relationship, and I was like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I need to swim in a different pond,’ but I had to do a lot [of] real work.”

At the time, Orlando went on a retreat that was called “The Hoffman Process,” which “is a week-long residential and personal growth retreat that helps participants identify negative behaviors, moods, and ways of thinking that developed unconsciously and were conditioned in childhood,” according to the Hoffman Institute’s website.

“He went there, and he wasn’t playing that cat-mouse game anymore,” Katy said about Orlando when he came back from the retreat. “And I was like, ‘This is boring. I’m moving on.’ I was so used to this push-pull. Because once you have it. I was playing games. … I finally went to Hoffman towards the end of that year that we were separated, and I got the tools.”

After returning from the retreat, Katy said that she and Orlando “spoke the same language” and decided to rekindle their romance. Although their year apart was “really tough” for her, Katy credited the Hoffman Process, noting that she’d “be dead without it.”

“I would not be on this planet without that process and meditation. Because the noise got so large,” she explained. “When Witness came out and things started to shift, and I thought I really loved myself. I thought I really had that center, but actually that core was created from outside validation. It just helped me rewire what I think about myself, and it helped me connect my head to my heart.”
