The hit TLC series My 600-lb Life will premiere Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. ET. The new episodes will kick off with the final episodes of season 8 and then will move into season 9. HollywoodLife has an EXCLUSIVE trailer for the highly-anticipated ninth season that follows the journeys of morbidly obese people as they fight to save their own lives by making the courageous decision to undergo high-risk gastric bypass surgery.
“I wake up every morning and that’s when it comes crashing down on me. This is not the life I wanted,” one woman says in the trailer. The show chronicles the lifelong hardships with addiction and the inevitable impact their condition has on their closest relationships. Each episode gives an inside look at the extreme emotional and physical journeys each person must undergo to qualify for life-saving surgery with Dr. Nowzaradan.
One cast member says, “All I do is eat. It makes me feel better.” A loved one eventually confronts him and tells the cast member, “It’s sad you ain’t living to the best of your abilities.” Dr. Now says to one of his patients, “If you value your life, what are you willing to do to preserve that?”
A husband of a cast member admits, “I’d be willing to do anything to get my wife back the way she was before.” Emotions are running high in season 9. A woman breaks down in tears. One even confesses, “I’ve got to make a change. If I don’t change I’m going to die.” At one point in the trailer, a scale is shown and reveals someone is 940 pounds. Many of the cast members dedicate themselves to getting healthier.
The season 9 trailer ends with a cast member sitting in the hospital bed in tears. “Food is my entire life. I don’t know what I am without food,” she cries. My 600-lb Life will air Wednesdays on TLC.
Earlier this year, the My 600-lb Life family lost two past cast members. Season 5 subject James King died at the age of 49 in April 2020 after suffering major health issues. Coliesa McMillan, who recently appeared in the show’s eighth season, died in Sept. 2020 at 41 following surgery complications.
