Whoopi Goldberg fully supports Tom Cruise after the actor reportedly exploded on the Mission Impossible 7 set at two crew members not following COVID-19 protocols. The EGOT-winner explained on The View that it’s all about safety and the future of the movie. “Some people don’t understand why he’d get so angry. I get it,” Whoopi said. “You know, that’s his movie. And if he goes down with COVID, the movie’s done. That’s five, six weeks done. You can keep going… but you can’t get another Tom Cruise.”

She likened the crew members blatantly ignoring COVID-19 practices to them giving Tom “the middle finger,” adding that, “I curse people out all the time.” The leaked recording of the on-set outburst features a man, identified by anonymous sources as the Mission Impossible star saying, “If I see you do it again, you’re f**king gone. And if anyone in this crew does it, that’s it — and you too and you too. And you, don’t you ever f**king do it again.”

The View co-host Sara Haines got where Whoopi was coming from, but didn’t necessarily agree with Tom’s approach. “I definitely agree with the sentiment… he made some great points, but his reaction went over the top.” Sara noted that nobody should “ever speak to grown adults the way he just did.” But the other co-hosts were all with Whoopi.

Joy Behar said that she understands if people “rage” after seeing over a million people die from COVID-19 worldwide — including over 300,000 in the US alone. “I believe Tom Cruise is completely justified in doing that. I’m completely on his side,” she said. Sunny Hostin at first thought Tom’s rant was “abusive and HR-worthy,” but realized why Tom was so angry. “The notion that people would be so cavalier amidst a pandemic possibly warrants his rage, his anger, his disappointment. Not necessarily the expletives… but I think he gets a pass for this.”
