As always, Cardi B has absolutely no time for the haters. Cardi was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year on Nov. 18, but unfortunately, there was some criticism regarding the pic. Some people thought it was a stretch to consider Cardi Woman of the Year when she ‘only had one song’ (“WAP”) come out in 2020. However, Cardi took to Instagram to defend herself and the choice in a clap back video.
“For you cry babies like, ‘She only got one song’ — yeah, I got THAT song, b****,” Cardi said. “You know, the one that sold the most. The one that streamed the most. The one that had Republicans crying on Fox news about it. The one that’s about to be six times platinum in three months. The one that had your grandma popping her p**** on TIkTok. Yeah, b****, that one.”
She also explained that her success this year was based off so much more than just her music. “For over a year, I’ve been influencing and using my platform to get y’all to vote,” Cardi continued. “Not just when Joe Biden was winning against [Donald] Trump. I’ve been informing y’all about Senators, about district and midterm elections. I’m using my money to meet up with these candidates, like Bernie [Sanders], flying out, tired after shows. Yeah, that’s me, b****. I represent America, okay? I wanted a change and that’s exactly what the f*** I did. Eat it up. I’m just that b****. Eat it up with a spoon.”
More than anything, Cardi was clearly proud of the fact that she used her voice for a bigger purpose this year. Of course, she also made sure to thank her fans for helping her get to this point. “Thank you BARDIGANG,” she captioned the clip. Without you encouraging [me] while the world was against me and criticizing my every move I wouldn’t have gotten here every day and use my voice for a change.”
In addition to Cardi, the other women being honored at Billboard’s Women in Music this year are Jennifer Lopez, Dolly Parton, Dua Lipa, Chloe x Halle and Jessie Reyez. The ceremony will be hosted by Teyana Taylor on Dec. 10. Fans can watch along as it will be streamed online, too.
