Katy Perry’s Performance: Billboard Awards — Strips Down To Sexy ‘Birthday’ Suit
Although the performance was shown via satellite, Katy still made a huge impression on the crowd gathered at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Rocking bright neon green hair, the singer started her performance in a pink coat before stripping down to her “birthday suit,” aka a nude-colored body suit covered in colorful text and birthday-themed designs.
The singer even shared the spotlight by calling a birthday girl up to the stage and having the lucky fan sit on top of a cake while Katy serenaded her. At the end of the mind-blowing performance, Katy flew into the air over the crowd via a bunch of balloons — amazing!
It’s no wonder Katy was having so much fun during the performance: The singer was nominated for multiple awards at the ceremony, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Radio Song, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Digital Song, Top Streaming Artist, and Top Streaming Song Video. It was totally Katy’s night!
Is Katy Perry Copying Lady Gaga?
Not all of Katy’s recent performances have been major successes. The 29-year-old singer kicked off her Prismatic tour in Northern Ireland by showing a tape in which she sticks her finger in her mouth suggestively and then pukes paint. Yikes!
The video was especially controversial because Lady Gaga did a similar act during her performance at the SXSW Festival on March 13, which was criticized for glorifying bulimia (and for being, well, just gross). Let’s hope Katy wasn’t copying Lady Gaga because we don’t want this paint puking thing to spread!
