Taylor Swift’s Music Video For ‘Shake It Off’ Has A Fantastic Attitude

Talk about upbeat! Taylor dances and shakes in various personas — as a flat-footed ballerina, a boom-box-carrying hipster, a high school cheerleader and a booty-twerking Fly Girl, among others — all to show that it doesn’t matter who you are, you all share the same troubles.

Taylor Swift: Which Ex-Boyfriend Is ‘Shake It Off’ About?

Yes, all girls and young women have to deal with the same problems and downer situations, whether you’re Taylor Swift or Every Girl, USA.

But as Taylor sings and dances through her new single, which will be on her just-announced album 1989, she’s promoting the super positive message that you have to learn to just “shake it off.”

Taylor takes aim at all the players, haters, cheaters and heartbreakers — plus, all those nameless bullies who have spread rumors about her and her love life.

“I go on too many dates, but I can’t make them stay, at least that’s what people say,” she sings, striking back at all those who’ve critiqued her track record of multiple romances, from Jake Gyllenhaal to Taylor Lautner to Harry Styles.

But Taylor isn’t going to let those haters get her down. “But I keep cruising, can’t stop, won’t stop working … because a player’s gonna play, play, play, and haters are gonna hate, hate, hate, but I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake” — yes, Taylor’s going to “shake it off, shake it off.”

Taylor Swift: Girls Should Adopt Her ‘Shake It Off’ Attitude

It’s a fantastic, empowering message to young women who so often spend way too much time brooding over the negative naysayers in their lives, or who punish and torment themselves with self-criticism.

Taylor’s making it clear with her lyrics that you can’t control the lousy people that you come into contact with in your life, so you just have to shake them off and move on! “While you’ve been getting down and out about the liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world, you could have been getting down to this sick beat,” she chants.

Taylor has had these kinds of liars and cheats in her world, but she’s not going to let them rain on her life parade, and neither should you!

She even mimics the typical agony so many young women (including her best friend Selena Gomez) have gone through. “My ex-man brought his new girlfriend and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, with the hella good hair.'” You can just hear Selena freaking out to Taylor about Justin Bieber‘s flings with Chantel Jeffries or Yovanna Ventura, can’t you?

But Taylor’s totally positive message of not allowing these players, haters and fakers to block you from moving and cruising forward with your own life, is so invigorating!

Taylor has moved ahead with her career, her friendships, her cats and her style in her own life, and she is a fantastic role model for young women. But now she’s wrapped up her philosophy in this perfect song, adding the most danceable of beats and three all-important words to a catchy melody.

Happily, you won’t be able to shake off, “Shake It Off.”
