Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau’s scandalous relationship served as inspiration for the new movie ‘May December.’ See photos of them here.
Vili Fualaau was a student in teacher Mary Kay Letourneau’s class at Shorewood Elementary School in Burien, WA when in the summer of 1996, they began an affair. A relative of her then-husband alerted authorities to their relations and Mary took a plea deal on charges of second-degree rape. She gave birth to their daughter Audrey in May 1997 before sentencing.
Mary served three months of her sentence and was released with the stipulation she have no contact with Vili. After she was released in 1998, the two were caught in a car together outside Seattle. Mary was then sent to prison to serve out her full sentence. She gave birth to their second daughter Georgia while in prison.
Mary was released from prison in August 2004 after serving her full sentence. She and Vili married in 2005, but they divorced in 2019. Mary died from colon cancer on July 7, 2020.
