Why Did Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick Break Up? Inside Their Messy Split

The now-exes, who share three children, dated on and off from 2006 to 2015 before officially calling it quits.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick’s relationship is history. However, he is still on good terms with the rest of her family, and he currently stars in their Hulu show, The Kardashians. After a tumultuous on-and-off romance, Scott and Kourtney permanently split, and she once revealed what the real reason was behind their breakup.

Why Did Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick Break Up?

During the 2021 KUWTK reunion special, Kourtney admitted to Andy Cohen that Scott’s drug abuse was the “deal breaker.”

“The infidelity — I only knew about it at the end — so, I think the substance abuse was the deal breaker.” Scott owned up to his mistakes at the time as well, saying, “I don’t want to make any excuses for my behavior. I definitely wouldn’t have done these things sober, but it was all wrong. I just thought it was normal, to be honest.”

Though Kris Jenner has become one of Scott’s biggest supporters, the momager once confessed on KUWTK that she was concerned about her daughter’s relationship with the Talentless founder. However, Scott vowed at the time that he would “never disrespect” Kourtney by cheating on her.

“I have serious doubts about Scott,” Kris said in the episode that aired in 2007. “I found out he’s cheating on Kourtney, and as her mom, I want to tell her, but I don’t know how.”

The couple went on to break up, then reconcile multiple times over the years. They first split in 2008, but rekindled their love the following year. In 2009, Kourtney revealed that she and Scott had hooked up, resulting in her first pregnancy. In 2010, however, they called it quits again because Kourtney noticed how rageful Scott would become whenever he drank too much.

After five additional years together, Kourtney and Scott officially split in 2015 after he was accused of cheating again. During a KWUTK episode at the time, the Lemme founder admitted that she was “on the verge of a mental breakdown.”

“I can’t believe that this is where my life is at right now,” she admitted. “I’ve worked so hard to keep this family together. It just makes me sad for the kids. He’s not being a good partner to me. I could never rely on him, depend on him for one single thing, and I don’t want to show my kids that that’s OK. I love Scott, but I’ve been dealing with this for so long, it’s definitely not good for me. At this point, I’m really just trying to focus on me and the kids and make them the priority.”

Yet, the former couple were occasionally seen getting close after their 2015 breakup, hinting that they had reconciled. However, Kourtney shut down the rumors during the KUWTK 2021 reunion special.

How Many Kids Do Kourtney and Scott Have?

Scott and Kourtney share three children together: Penelope, Mason and Reign Disick. Despite their past stressful relationship, the two have remained dedicated co-parents.

Since the two share custody of their kids, the reality TV stars make sure to prioritize their children above anything else. Now that they both star in The Kardashians, their little ones occasionally make appearances on camera as well.

Are Kourtney and Scott Still Friends?

Despite maintaining a strong friendship after their split, it does not appear that the exes are as close nowadays. Ever since Kourtney started dating her husband, Travis Barker, in 2020, she and Scott became distant.
