Stephen “DJ tWitch” Boss died at the age of 40 on Dec. 13, 2022. The resident DJ for The Ellen DeGeneres Show was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel room from suicide, Los Angeles Police Sergeant Borihana told HollywoodLife. “The decedent’s death was ruled a suicide and no foul play was involved,” Borihana said. “The body was handed over to the LA County Coroner.” The coroner’s report obtained by HollywoodLife that tWitch died by suicide with a self-inflicted “gunshot wound to the head.”
His wife, Allison Holker, mourned his loss in a statement to People. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” she said. “I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”

Boss was born in Alabama and his dancing shoes followed shortly after as he went on to study dance at Chapman University. Following his studies, he began competing on a wide variety of reality dance shows, including Star Search and The Wade Robson Project. He ended up taking home second place on both of those shows.
One of the other reality shows that tWitch tried out for was So You Think You Can Dance? After auditioning previously, he finally landed on Season 4 in 2008, where he lost out to winner Joshua Allen. On the show, tWitch was known for his sense of humor that he added to his performances. He came back as an “all-star” and then as a judge when SYTYCD was rebooted in 2022.
After landing the gig as house DJ for The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014, tWitch would soon become a beloved fixture on the daytime talk show series. He would even move up the ranks behind the scenesm earning the title of producer
In her statement to People, Allison had added, “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”
“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt,” she continued. “I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”
The pair had two children together, and tWitch adopted Alison’s daughter from a previous relationship.
Looking happy and healthy, tWitch performed a choreographed routine with his wife Allison on the Sunday before his death, which she posted to her Instagram on Dec. 11. The adorable couple dance it out in front of a Christmas tree, with the clip captioned, “HOLIDAY SUNDAY FUNDAY DANCE !!! With my lover @sir_twitch_alot”
