Mary Kate was just 17 when she auditioned for The Voice season 23. She performed “Stars” by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton both fought for Mary Kate to be on their teams. Mary Kate ended up joining Team Blake. While Mary Kate lost her battle with Kylee Dayne, Blake gave her a Playoff Pass to stay in the competition.
Mary Kate landed the role of Young Cosette in a local high school production of Les Misérables when she was just 8 years old, according to her NBC bio. The show ended up performing on the Kennedy Center stage. Mary Kate has since won a National Youth Arts Award for Best Lead Actress for the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid.
Mary Kate has been raised in Ashburn, Virginia. She is currently a senior in high school at Stone Bridge High School.
When she could finally post that she auditioned for The Voice, Mary Kate penned a heartfelt note about how much this opportunity means to her. She wrote on Instagram, “3 years. that’s how long it’s taken me to get to this point. 3 years of triumphs and battles. to be able to make this post with the voice across the page is a dream come true. and now the day the new chapter of my life starts is almost here.”
Mary Kate has been accepted to James Madison University. She’s planning on majoring in music industry. “My dream is to live in Nashville, and, you know, learning how to produce my own music, learning the ins-and-outs of the industry at JMU will definitely push me to my goals,” Mary Kate told The Bulldog Tribune.
