The former football coach’s salary and financial standing have become a major topic amid the news of his firing.
Sherrone Moore, the University of Michigan’s former football coach, was ousted on December 10, 2025, by the school over an alleged affair with a staff member, which the university deemed an “inappropriate relationship” with “credible evidence” backing it up. As a result, his sports career, salary and overall net worth have become major topics in addition to his personal life.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced in December 2025. “Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
In the wake of his firing, reports indicate Moore could lose out on millions of dollars in remaining contract money, shifting attention beyond the circumstances of his dismissal to the financial consequences tied to his exit from the program.

Moore was fired by the University of Michigan after an internal investigation concluded that he engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member, which the school said violated university policy. Michigan officials stated there was “credible evidence” supporting the finding, and his termination was handled with cause, meaning the university will not owe him the remainder of his contract.
The university has not publicly identified the staff member involved, and officials declined to provide further detail as part of a personnel matter. Interim president Domenico Grasso described the situation as a violation of the school’s standards for conduct.
At the time of his dismissal, Moore was married to his wife, Kelli Moore, with whom he has three daughters.
Moore’s exact net worth has not been publicly confirmed. However, estimates vary widely. Some reports place his net worth as high as $28 million, while Celebrity Net Worth estimates it to be closer to $4 million.
Moore was expected to make a $510,000 base salary as well as $5.1 million of “additional compensation” in 2025, according to his contract obtained by USA Today.
Moore had a total salary of $6.11 million total salary this season, according to USA Today. He was ranked 40th as the highest-paid coach in college football, the outlet reported.

Moore is not currently in jail. He was arrested on December 10, 2025, just hours after he was fired as Michigan’s coach. At around 8:30 p.m. ET, he was taken into police custody at Washtenaw County Jail in Michigan, according to multiple outlets. He was still booked into jail in the morning hours of December 11.
At the time, USA Today and CNN reported Moore faced multiple charges, including a felony count of home invasion and other misdemeanors. However, those more serious charges were later dropped as part of a plea agreement.
In April 2026, Moore pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges—trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device—and was sentenced to 18 months of probation and fined just over $1,000, avoiding jail time.
