Madonna says she’s unwell again. During the Antwerp, Belgium stop on her Celebration tour on October 21, the singer revealed she doesn’t feel well, reflected on her mother’s death, and expressed gratitude that she’s still alive after her bacterial infection. “I had this strange thought,” she reflected in clips circulating via social media, audible emotion in her voice. “I suddenly had sympathy and empathy for my mother. About how lonely she must have felt in the hospital, knowing that she wasn’t going to live. And I was given another chance. So I’m very grateful for that.”
Madge then divulged that she’s again feeling unwell. “I must tell you, I don’t feel very well right now,” she continued. “But I can’t complain because I’m alive. Thank God for my children and all of you, and all of your love and support. I really appreciate it.”
The pop legend also reflected on her “serious” bacterial infection and subsequent hospital stay in June. “Less than four months ago I was in a hospital, and I was unconscious, and people were thinking; predicting — that I might not make it,” she said in another clip. “It’s a f***ing miracle that I’m here right now. My mother, God bless her, she must be watching over me,” she continued. “‘Girl, it’s not your time to go.”‘
Madonna’s health scare occurred in June, when she was forced to postpone the kickoff to her tour due to what was described as a “serious bacterial infection.”
“On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU,” her manager Guy Oseary wrote in a statement at the time. “Her health is improving. However, she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Madonna was discharged from the hospital on June 29, five days after the initial news broke. She finally debuted the Celebration Tour in London on October 14.
