The Kardashians have officially won the $100 million defamation lawsuit leveled against them in Los Angeles by Blac Chyna in 2017. “On behalf of Kris, Kim, Khloe, and Kylie, I want to express our appreciation to the jury,” Kardashian family lawyer Michael Rhodes tells HollywoodLife. “We are also grateful for the steady hand of Judge Alarcon in making sure that this was a fair trial. The jury sent a clear message to Ms. White and her lawyer — I hope they are listening. Justice has prevailed.”
Immediately after the news broke, the Kardashian attended the Met Gala, and Kris Jenner said she’s “glad” the trial is “over”. The suit claimed that the famous reality-star family defamed her and deliberately attempted to get her show with ex Rob Kardashian, Rob & Chyna canceled. Among the many shocking revelations that surfaced during the weeks long trial were testimonies regarding several violent incidents between Rob and Chyna, a threat to kill him, and concerns about the family brand becoming damaged. During the April 26 proceedings, Khloe Kardashian called Chyna “toxic” and added that she wanted to protect her brother from Chyna’s “outrageous/chaotic/violent behavior.” “We were all considering not being a part of such toxicity,” she said.
“We are even considering not moving forward with our show if theirs continues, that’s how strongly we feel this is damaging to our family,” Khloe reportedly wrote in an email, it was revealed in court the same day. In another email reportedly sent to E!, Khloe suggested that the couple’s volatile dynamic was potentially damaging to the family brand.
During the dramatic trial, Chyna’s mother Tokyo Toni was told to stay away from court on April 19 after posting an alarming social media video saying that the famous family members “look like they dead.” Tokyo then escalated the situation by taking to Instagram for a live video filmed directly outside the courthouse, during which she reportedly said, “I’m gonna get that judge.” And a potential juror admitted that he could not be “impartial on this case,” also on April 19, as he had seen Kim’s infamous 2007 sex tape with Ray J, but hadn’t seen Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The Kardashians were reportedly not present when the verdict was read, and according to TMZ, when the Los Angeles court clerk asked where they were, their lawyer responded that they were at “some gala” in NYC — obviously, they are attending the Met Gala there.
