The Kardashians will be celebrating Christmas a little differently this year. Khloe Kardashian, 36, responded to a fan asking whether or not the family Christmas party was still on for this year given the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Covid cases are getting out of control in CA. So we decided that we’re not doing a Christmas Eve party this year. It’s the first time we will not be having a Christmas Eve party since 1978 I believe. Health and safety first though! Taking this pandemic seriously is a must,” Khloe, who battled COVID-19 earlier this year, tweeted.

Khloe later added in response to another fan that next year’s Christmas Eve party is going to be on a new level. “I am so over 2020! (Says everyone) Next year, our Christmas Eve party is going to be so f**king fire! Covid better be gone by next Christmas,” Khloe wrote.
The Kardashians love the holidays, and the family always kicks off Christmas with their Christmas Eve party. The annual holiday bash started back when Kris Jenner, 65, was still married to Robert Kardashian and continued through her marriage to Caitlyn Jenner, 71, and beyond. In the past decade, the party has become one of the most star-studded Hollywood events.
Kris has also passed the baton to other members of the family when it comes to hosting the Christmas Eve party. Kim Kardashian, 40, has hosted in the past, and Kourtney Kardashian, 41, hosted in 2019. Kourtney’s party featured lavish Christmas decorations, real-life Elves on the Shelves, and performances by Sia, 44, and Kanye West, 43. The sisters got all dolled up in gorgeous outfits, too.
Back in Nov. 2020, Khloe was still hopeful that the Christmas Eve party could happen. “I think it will have to be way smaller obviously. And I’m totally fine with that! But we’re definitely celebrating Christmas! It will just have to be small and safe. Maybe do rapid testing before. We have to think of what is safest,” Khloe tweeted.
However, it would have been impossible for the KarJenners to have every member of their own family at a 2020 Christmas Eve party. The California Department of Public Health announced on Nov. 13 that “gatherings that include more than 3 households are prohibited. This includes everyone present, including hosts and guests. Remember, the smaller the number of people, the safer.”
The KarJenners have faced backlash for certain situations during the pandemic. Kim sparked controversy by flying the closest members of her friends and family to a private island in Tahiti for her 40th birthday. The guests that got to go had two weeks of multiple health screens and had to quarantine. A few weeks later, Kendall Jenner, 25, was criticized for throwing a Halloween birthday party. Guests had to have a rapid COVID-19 test done on-site, but the guests seemingly did not wear masks throughout the night.
