We’ve been waiting patiently for a very long time for some new music from Bruno Mars, 30. His last album Unorthodox Jukebox came out in 2012, and the last hit he sang on was Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” in 2014. He finally released “24k Magic” on Oct. 6, however the reason that it took him so long to put out new music is absolutely tragic.

“The past four years, since his last album have been the hardest years of his life,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVEY. “He lost his mother three years ago totally unexpectedly. She had a brain aneurysm it was a total shock, it’s been a major process for him to recover from that and then last February his grandma (maternal grandmother Sally Bayot) who helped raise him passed away right before the Super Bowl.” Oh no!

Bruno had a very close relationship with his grandma, he even dedicated “Just The Way You Are” to her at one of his concerts, calling her his “heart and soul”! “He was so close to her, it was very hard for him to go on with the show but he did it because he knew that’s what she would want,” the source explained. Bruno even managed to take inspiration from his grandma and make it positive.

“This album could have gone totally dark, there were certainly some dark days for Bruno, but instead he turned it into a celebration, he chose to honor his mom and grandmother — or Mamma as he called her — by making a joyous album. They were full of good vibes and love and that’s what he wants this album to spread.” So touching! Our hearts go out to Bruno, and we’re so proud of him for making his first single “24k Magic” so amazing!
