Big Ang rose to fame on the second season of the VH1 series Mob Wives, which aired from January-May 2012. She continued to star on the show through season six, which is the middle of airing when she sadly died in February. But amid the success of Mob Wives, Ang became a breakout star all on her own.
In July 2012, Ang’s own series, Big Ang, also premiered on VH1 as a spinoff. In May 2013, it was confirmed that another season of the show was being filmed, although it was retitled to be called Miami Monkey. The series followed Ang as she opened a second location of her Staten Island bar, Drunken Monkey, in Florida. The bar opened in May 2013, and the series premiered four months later. Unfortunately, it was not picked up for a second season.
Sadly, Ang was diagnosed with throat cancer in April, and she underwent surgery to have a lemon-sized tumor removed. By October, she was cancer-free, so we can’t imagine how upset she was to learn that the terrible disease returned in December. This time, the Stage 4 cancer spread to her brain and lungs, leading to her tragic death. Click through the gallery above to relive her amazing life.
