We recently caught up with Sterling about his thoughts on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy — and he revealed that the Oscars aren’t “just an awards ceremony” to him, but it also opens up career opportunities. “So when I think about this guy Ryan Cooglar who I think is a wonderful wonderful director and did a masterful job with Creed. That recognition means something, it opens up doors! So you have to think about it in those terms, it is not just an award, it is not just get over it. These awards mean things to people beyond just being a shiny statue.”
