Robert Pattinson is dating again! Sorry, Robsten fans. A little more low-key than Kristen Stewart, London-based FKA twigs is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and dancer.
Robert Pattinson, 28, is finally getting serious with someone after his years-long, on-and-off romance with Kristen Stewart, 24. His new girlfriend, FKA twigs, 26, is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter and a true original — no wonder Rob likes her! Because she’s a little less famous than Rob’s previous paramours, read on for more about the new woman in Rob’s life, FKA twigs, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett.
Robert Pattinson’s Girlfriend FKA Twigs: Who Is She? 5 Things To Know
Without further ado… (and yes, it’s FKA twigs with a lowercase “t,” unless it’s at the beginning of a sentence. The more you know!)
1. FKA Twigs Produces Her Own Critically-Acclaimed Music
As mentioned above, twigs is a singer-songwriter, but that’s not all. She self-released her first album, EP1, in Dec. 2012, and her second extended play, EP2, was produced by herself and Arca — you may know him as the producer of Kanye West‘s Yeezus! Not too shabby of a musical pedigree, hmm?
EP2 was well-received by critics — even the notoriously difficult-to-please Pitchfork gave the album an 8/10! After all, she’s been making music and performing it in clubs since she was 16.
Her debut full-length album, LP1, was released in August 2014 and was heaped with even more praise than her previous works. Also produced by herself, Arca, and a few other big names, Time named twigs “one of the most compelling and complex acts in R&B.”
In case you’ve never heard her music before, it can be described as new vibe electronica with R&B vocals, and you’ve got to check out “Papi Pacify.”
2. FKA Twigs Used To Be A Backup Dancer
Twigs moved to London from her native Gloucestershire to pursue a career as a dancer.
Before transitioning to creating and performing music full-time, twigs was a backup dancer for artists like Jessie J, Kylie Minogue, and Ed Sheeran. Notably, twigs appeared in Jessie’s 2010 video for “Do It Like A Dude,” and in her 2011 video for smash hit “Price Tag.”
3. FKA Twigs — What’s In A Name?
Twigs got her nickname for the way her joints crack when she dances — “Her joints snap so loudly and quickly that it sounds like a bag of marbles spilling onto a wood floor,” wrote Pitchfork. Yikes! We hope she’s healthy!
Twigs added the “FKA” after another artist named “Twigs” complained about the use. FKA stands for “Formerly Known As,” though she is still referred to by “twigs.”
4. FKA Twigs Is Active On Social Media
If you’re a fan of twigs — and why wouldn’t you be? — you’re in luck. She’s active on Twitter (often replying to fans) and Instagram like most celebs, and she also has a minor Tumblr presence. Stalk away! (But from a safe distance, please!)
5. FKA Twigs Is Not Interested In Being The Next Kristen Stewart
As a source revealed to The Sun about her romance with Rob after they were spotted together in NYC on Aug. 27, “The main thing for [twigs] is that the relationship remains low key. She wants to be known for her music, not just as ‘Robert Pattinson’s girlfriend.’
“She’s worried about being bogged down by constant comparisons to Kristen.”
We can’t blame her! Rob and Kristen’s relationship was so heavily publicized that they essentially became agoraphobic hermits.
So, HollywoodLifers, are there any twigs fans among you? Do you like Rob and twigs together? Let us know!
