Rihanna On TLC Diss: It’s Great That You Stood Up To TLC
The pair took the opportunity to attack you during a June 5 interview with Channel 7’s Sunrise show in Australia.
Well, maybe they were just trying to get a little attention since they’ve been out of the limelight lately, but taking a dig at you, Rihanna, wasn’t cool. Here’s everything they had to say about you:
“Every time I see you, you don’t have to be naked.”

“We became the biggest selling girl group of all time with our clothes on, and that says a lot.”
“We could go around too with booby cakes [breasts] out all day long.”
“It’s hard for us to say anything, because any time we do, they say, ‘Oh, TLC must be jealous,’ but I call a spade a spade.”
They were clearly referencing your jaw-dropping, but absolutely stunning, transparent CFDA gown, which did reveal virtually every gorgeous inch that God gave you. And, yes, you did go braless and only wore a tiny thong, so your breasts and butt were pretty clearly on display.
Now, the TLC duo chose to see your display as a crass, commercial attempt to sell more albums while you were receiving the CFDA’s 2014 Fashion Icon Award.
Most fans, however, saw your incredible, custom-designed Adam Selman gown — which glowed with thousands of Swarovski crystals — as a statement of artistry.
The gown was so elegant, and you truly looked as beautiful as a modern-day Aphrodite. There was no way that we could see your display as cheesy or racy-sexy in any way.
It turned out that your look was, in fact, an ode to the great, groundbreaking singer Josephine Baker, who you tweeted was your inspiration: “Happy birthday to the late Josephine Baker! You have and will continue to inspire us women for decades to come!”
Josephine was known for her own breathtaking performances in Paris in the early 20th century, and she, too, was comfortable showing off her nearly-nude body in a wholly artistic way.
Rihanna — Good For You For Dissing TLC Right Back
Well, T-Boz and Chilli may not have expected you to immediately react to their slam. But being the strong, take-no-guff woman that you are, you did — and in a very public and spectacular fashion.
You put up a new photo header on your Twitter page and, guess what, it was a picture of T-Boz and Chilli, bare-breasted, with their hands over their nipples, originally shown in Vibe magazine in 1994.
Yup, Rihanna, you were pointing out that those who live in glass houses should NOT be throwing stones — i.e., if you’re going to accuse Rihanna of going naked and using sex to sell, then I guess you shouldn’t be doing it yourselves!
Furthermore, you defiantly tweeted, “When there’s no changing the fact that I’m me, and they’re, well … they’re them.”
Ouch! You made your point, Rihanna! You ARE at the top of your game right now and, well, they are not.
Furthermore, you tweeted the Dr. Maya Angelou quote, “Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise…”, and another Maya Angelou quote, “That I dance like I’ve got diamonds — At the meetings of my thighs.”
And you’re right. TLC’s comments were silly and unnecessary. You made what I thought was a major statement at the CFDA, where you were honored. It was a statement about being proud to be recognized as a strong style leader.
But you also chose, on that momentous occasion, to recognize the artistic style leadership of your icon — and rumored film role — Josephine Baker.
You and she were proud of the beauty of the female form, and you wanted to show it. TLC didn’t get that at all, so good for you for standing up for your beauty and beliefs!
