‘Vampire Diaries’: Elena’s Return Brings Her Back Into Damon’s Arms

When Elena's away, Damon will play . . . and then when she returns, he'll admit to her all the people he's killed in her absence. Poor Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). All she wants to do is be back to her normal self, but even with Katherine gone, it doesn't seem possible. Since Katherine had infected her with a virus that caused her to crave vampire blood, hallucinate, and get really sick, she can't go back to normal life. In fact, she can't even decipher between what's real and what's not.

Elena’s Return: Hallucinations, Lies & Sex

First and foremost, I was dying to know how Elena had enough quarters on her for that initial conversation with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) on a payphone, but regardless, it was nice to hear that spark between them again. It was a little bit of pillow talk since they both had something in common — they were locked away to keep them from killing every one of their friends. Damon remained in the basement under the watchful eyes of Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven McQueen), while Elena was locked inside Whitmore campus, thanks to the newby witch Liv (Penelope Mitchell).

Unfortunately, the pillow talk came to an end when Elena broke down and Damon tried helping without revealing that he had killed her BFF Aaron. Unfortunately she found out that he was dead through one of her hallucinations, and assumed she did it, making her even more crazy. A ridiculously emotional Elena called Damon about to give up, so he did what most logical boyfriends would do — threatened to kill Matt and Jeremy so he could get out. Elena pretty much did the same. She compelled her new friend, Luke (Chris Brochu) (a student who apparently knew her when she was Katherine) to go get Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Liv before stabbing Liv in the stomach so that she would lift the spell that was locking her in.

Caroline & Enzo Shouldn’t Hook Up

Naturally, the escape wasn’t as happy as either was hoping. She ran right into the arms of Damon, who first brought her a bottle of Stefan (Paul Wesley)’s blood — which I need to point out is ridiculously nice since he too is craving vamp blood. However, the sweet streak ended there. Elena was completely breaking down because she thinks she killed Aaron, so Damon helps her by coming clean.

Stefan & Caroline Risk Their Lives For Elena . . . Again

While Elena and Damon were trying to figure out how to stop the hunger, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan went on a search for the antidote to break the curse, so naturally they got help of Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and the travelers.

Somehow, Stefan got himself in another we-need-to-link-you-to-your-doppleganger situation, so that head traveler Sloan (Caitlin McHugh) could get the blood of them both for the curse to be broken. Before she went too far (which would end up leaving Stefan with no memory again), Caroline stepped in and volunteered to kill the mystery doppleganger whose in Atlanta, that way Stefan won’t have to suffer any more pain. Aww, BFFs.

One thing I’m not aww-ing is Caroline’s “love for accents.” Please let’s not make Carlenzo happen. I’m still not over Klaroline, or even Forwood. Regardless, I digress.

Enzo then took the antidote to a somewhat (?) happy Elena and Damon. However, this means that they were back to being ok and she’s back to being upset that he killed her friend, but even more hurt that he didn’t realize it was Katherine taking over her body. However, the winner of all (this is basically the poem from 10 Things I Hate About You now), she hates that she can’t stop loving him. In an intense conversation, they agree that they’re bad for each other and that it’s “over” — so they seal it by hooking up.

We’ve got to add that we finally found out why Liz is such a cocky b-iotch . . . she’s an experienced witch, and that little friend that Elena compelled? Well, he’s Liz’s brother, and he wasn’t compelled, but just playing along. Nice touch.
