New Pics Of Miley Cyrus Raise Cutting Concerns Again, Experts Say

New pics of scary scars on Miley Cyrus‘ wrist have surfaced and experts tell HollywoodLife.com that the 19-year-old pop star needs an intervention if these are in fact from cutting.

Miley’s scars first went noticed in April 2012, and now a new concerning installment of marks have appeared. Lori Vann, Lic. Professional Counselor Supervisor, tells us that these scars are very similar to the ones she sees on her own patients who self-mutilate.

“The straight lines, the length of them, and the spacing may indicate self-injury,” she tells us.

Miley is a dog-owner, but Lori tells us these marks specifically don’t look like average animal scratches.

“Animal cuts tend to be a little less straight and precise, a bit more jagged on the edges. The only other possible explanation would be if she were cutting roses and the thorns could have made those type of scratches,” she tells us.

And another expert agrees.

“In general dogs’ nails don’t create deeper scar-like wounds. They are generally scratches which heal quickly. Their nail [marks] would also be straight, not in two different directions,” Wendy Lader, Ph.D., M.Ed.
President, S.A.F.E. Alternatives tells us. “Self-injury is a coping strategy intended to deal with intense emotional states and is often experienced as addictive. It can be dangerous in the long run as it serves to numb feelings rather than learn to accept and tolerate them.”

We’re sure Miley is super stressed working on her next album and wedding planning, but we hope this stress hasn’t caused her to harm herself. Dr. Jeff Gardere says if they are in fact wounds of self-mutilation, Miley’s family needs to stage an intervention immediately.

“It has to be an intervention where the easiest thing is to get her to the family physician, check her out and see what’s going on,” Dr. Gardere, chief contributor to HealthGuru.com says. “If it’s cutting, she needs intense psychotherapy to find whatever continues to be the stress in her life and make sure that’s being addressed. A lot of it could be the stress of being a super star and living your life in a glass bowl.”

Hollywood has seen other stars admit to cutting themselves, including Angelina Jolie ,Megan Fox, Christina Ricci,Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse, and even Princess Diana. Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard has published a book called, In The Water Where You They Can’t See You Cry, in which she chronicles her struggle with cutting and bulimia.
