The singer, who was dumped by her husband two-and-a-half years ago, has finally rebounded from heartbreak, and her son is at least partially responsible for her new love.
Shania Twain had a pretty public heartbreak back in May 2008, when her husband of 14 years, music producer Mutt Lange, reportedly left her for another woman. Even worse, it was rumored that the woman was Shania’s best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Suddenly single, Shania turned to Marie-Anne’s likewise spurned husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, for support. Flashforward to today, and the pair are engaged, and pals say their children brought them closer together!

Shania, 45, has a son with Mutt, 9-year-old Eja, who is the same age as Frédéric’s daughter, Johanna. As the four started spending more time together — even going on shared vacations — the single parents found their relationship blooming from friendship to love. And their kids bonded too. “Eja and Johanna have become best friends,” says a source close to the family tells Us magazine, adding that that Eja looks at his mom’s new fiancé as a father figure.
“I’m in love!” Shania wrote on her website. “Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship. Fred and I are happy to announce, our ENGAGEMENT!”
