The Mighty Ducks is one of Disney’s most famous sports film franchises it has ever produced! The first movie was released in 1992, and followed the inspirational story of the “District 5” Pee-Wee hockey team’s rise from underdogs to state champions on the ice. The iconic crew was played by child stars Joshua Jackson, Elden Henson, Shaun Weiss, Brandon Quintin Adams, Jussie Smolett, Marguerite Moreau, Matt Doherty and Aaron Schwartz. Of course, what made the film so iconic was the team’s coach, Gordon Bombay, played by “Brat Pack” icon Emilio Estevez!
In the movie, Emilio plays an attorney who’s arrested for drunk driving and as punishment, has to fulfill his community service requirement by coaching the District 5 team. It’s a heartwarming film, and thanks to the movie’s popularity, two sequels followed: D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994) and D3: The Mighty Ducks (1996). Now, Disney+ is releasing a 10-episode reboot series in 2020.
