From Perth, with love, comes The Faim. Josh Raven and Stephen Beerkens met in High School and performed their first show at Stephen’s 18th birthday party. After a name change (as they were originally Small Town Heroes) The Faim – French for ‘The Hunger’ – were born. Inspired by bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco and Metallica, the band brought in an array of musical influences from indie rock to jazz to pop-punk. For several years, The Faim hustled in their hometown of Perth, Australia, to build a following. In 2016, they gained the attention of producer John Feldmann, who invited the group to his studio in Los Angeles. The result was the group’s debut EP, Summer Is A Curse, which dropped in the fall of 2018.
A lineup change at the start of 2019 – guitarist Samuel Tye and drummer Linden Marrisen joined the group – energized the group ahead of their debut album’s release. State of Mind. “We wanted to shake up our mindset and our way of doing things,” Stephen says. “For State of Mind, I picked a chord I never play and that’s how the song starts. That song was originally five or six minutes long and it comes from the idea of doing something we’ve never done before.”
