Super Bowl LVI Cocktails — It’s Super Bowl season, so it’s time to drink up and be merry. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals or the Los Angeles Rams, on Feb. 13, 2022, we all raise our glasses and toast the grand spectacle of sports and entertainment that is Super Bowl LVI. The day will see football fans come together in hopes for an exciting gridiron clash – or friends hang out while watching the slew of commercials and the exciting Halftime Show.

While everyone has their own specific Super Bowl spread – some people need a seven-layer dip, others will go out for a six-foot-long sandwich – the party is not complete without a tasty beverage. While beer will flow on Super Bowl Sunday, for those who would prefer something more, here is a selection of cocktails to make your party the MVP of the season. (Though, we also throw in some beer suggestions for those who want to try something different.)

Pictured here is the perfect pregame drink: the YaVe Bloody Mary. The following drink was created by mixologist @cocktailswithmenyc and it’s easy to put together.

Salt the Rim:

·         1/2 tsp salt
·         Lime wedge

Mix the Cocktails:

·         2 oz YaVe Blanco Tequila
·         3/4 cup spicy tomato-vegetable juice
·         2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
·         1 dash Tabasco
·         Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

·         1 stalk celery
·         2 stuffed green olives

Method

·         Rub a lime wedge around the rims of the cocktail glasses and turn them upside-down onto a salt plate to coat the rims. Next, fill the glasses with ice. Add YaVe Blanco tequila, spicy tomato-vegetable juice, Worcestershire sauce, tabasco, salt and pepper then shake gently, straining the cocktail into the ice-filled glasses. As a final touch, garnish with a stalk of celery and green olives.

·    1 ounce rum
·    1 ounce Cold Brew Coffee
·    ¾ ounce macadamia nut syrup (Monin)
·    Top with 2-3 ounces of Kona Pipeline Porter

Method:

1.   Combine all ingredients, except the porter, in a cocktail shaker with ice
2.   Shake to chill and combine ingredients
3.   Double strain into a sours glass
4.   Top with Kona Pipeline Porter

·         Aperol
·         Cinzano Prosecco
·         Soda, served from syphon or chilled bottle
·         Slice of orange

Method:

·         Pour 3 parts Prosecco over a stemmed balloon glass full of ice
·         Add 2 parts of Aperol
·         Splash 1 part of Soda (stir gently if needed to achieve a bright and lively orange hue)
·         Garnish with an orange slice

·         1.5 oz El Bandido Yankee Blanco Tequila
·         1.5 oz Watermelon Puree
·         .50 oz Basil Simple Syrup
·         .75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
·         2 dashes of Hot Pepper Bitters
·         Dehydrated Basil Leaf for Garnish

Method
·         Combine tequila, watermelon puree, basil simple syrup, lime juice and 2 dashes of hot pepper bitters in a shaker tin and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish with dehydrated basil leaf.

Method

·         Combine all ingredients in shaker tin, add ice. Stir & strain on 1 large ice cube on a rocks glass. Garnish with an orange twist & grated dark chocolate.

Tasting Notes: This is essentially a ‘Mexican’ Old Fashioned because all the ingredients are Mexican, hence the name. It is rich, smooth, sweet, spicy, complex, sublime.

·         Combine liquid ingredients except soda in shaker tin. Add ice. Shake roughly 20 seconds to fully combine ingredients. Strain shaken ingredients over fresh ice in rocks glass. Top soda. Garnish with mint sprig.

Tasting Notes: Dried hibiscus and ginger balance tart and dry with subtle sweetness while a splash of soda helps this tall drink of agave water keep you coming back for more. ·         Combine all ingredients except soda in a shaker, add a pinch of salt before you shake th cocktail, shake and strain over ice in Collins glass. Top with soda (Topo Chico if available). Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

Method:

·         Muddle cucumber slices in the bottom of a shaker. Then add remaining ingredients and ice. Shake and fine-strain into highball glass with ice. Add 1 part sparkling wine (rosé is nice). Garnish with a cucumber slice wrapped in the glass.

Method:

1. Combine the whisky and Bloody Mary mix in a shaker tin.

2. Roll the ingredients back and forth between the shakers several times to combine. 3. Pour the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice.

To make an easy cinnamon syrup: In a small saucepan, boil one cup water with 2 tsp ground cinnamon. Reduce heat, then add one cup sugar, and stir until it dissolves.

·         1/2 bottle Laws San Luis Valley Rye Whiskey

·         1/4 gallon of apple cider

·         1/2 cup lemon juice

1/2 sage simple syrup*

2 bottles spicy ginger beer

Glassware: Punch bowl

Garnish: Apple slices, sage leaves

Method: Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl. Serve.

*Sage Simple Syrup:

Ingredients:

·         1 cup granulated sugar

·         1 cup water

·         1/2 cup firmly packed fresh sage leaves

Method:

·         Bring water to a boil. Add in sugar, stir to dissolve. Add the sage leaves, let the infusion boil for 60 seconds. Remove pan from heat and let steep for 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on how strong you would like it. Pour the cooled syrup through a mesh strainer into an airtight jar or container.

This may be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
