Silento, the stage name for rapper Richard Lamar Hawk, became an overnight sensation with his song “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” when he was just 16 years old. After dropping the song on SoundCloud, the young rapper released the music video on his 17th birthday in Jan. 2015 — more than five years later, the video now boasts over 1.7 million views on YouTube!
Thanks to the viral fame and chart success of “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” (it peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart), Silento signed with Capitol Records. However, the Atlanta native chose to finish his high school studies, and then dropped his debut album Fresh Outta High School afterwards in 2018. He went on to release Fresh Outta High School Part 2 and as of July of 2020, Silento hinted that he was filming something for his upcoming project Fresh Outta High School Part 3.
Silento is also known for his feature in the “Dessert” music video with Dawin, which dropped in Oct. 2019. Silento is pictured on the left at the 2016 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
