Rudy Gobert-Bourgarel, born in Saint-Quentin, France on June 26, 1992, is a French professional basketball player of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Rudy, who at 7 ft 1 plays the center position, also represents the French national basketball team in the international competitions. In 2018 and 2019, he won back-to-back NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards. Rudy had a record-breaking year in 2019: he demolished the single-season record for slam dunks with 306; he led the NBA in screen assists, with 482, effective field goal percentage, with 66.9 percent, and true shooting percentage, at 68.2 percent. He is a two-time NBA All-Star (2017 and 2019). Rude led the league in blocks in seasons 2016 and 2017. On March 11, 2020, it was confirmed that Rudy tested positive for coronavirus ahead of Utah’s away game against Oklahoma City Thunder. The game never happened, as the NBA suspended its season due to Rudy’s diagnosis. Coronavirus, also known was COVID-19 is a new disease that emerged in China in December 2019.
