One of the longest-lasting love stories in alternative rock stands before you. Rob Thomas, who first found fame as the frontman of Matchbox 20 (and lent his voice to Carlos Santana’s undeniable hit, ‘Smooth’), stands next to Marisol Maldonado, his wife and life partner. These two lovebirds first met at an afterparty in Montreal in the late 1990s. It was love at first sight. The two talked for ten minutes, and she knew Rob was the man he was going to marry. After months of long-distance dating, the two had their first honest-to-goodness date at a Boston music festival. Afterward, Rob knew that SHE was the woman HE was going to marry. The couple tied the knot in 1999, and have been going strong ever since.

 

Sorta…there was a moment when Marisol, a former model, didn’t know if she was ready to be a rockstar’s girlfriend. Plus, shortly after these two met, Rob met the son he had with an ex. Faced with a boyfriend who was also a father, and the fact that he would be touring for most of the time, Marisol balked …so Rob wrote a song to win her back. Clearly, it worked.
