The world first met Kevin Griffin in 1995. He — along with Tom Drummond and Cary Bonnecaze — conquered ‘90s alternative rock radio as Better Than Ezra. The band’s debut single, “Good,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks, and No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Though alternative rock faded from the mainstream, Kevin, as part of Better Than Ezra, continued to soldier on. After the turn of the century, band released Closer in 2001, Before The Robots in 2005, Paper Empire in 2009, and All Together Now in 2014. In 2019, Kevin decided that three-decades into his music career, it was time to release a solo album. His solo studio debut, Anywhere You Go, was released in 2019.
Over the decades, Kevin developed a reputation for being a well-respected and highly successful songwriter. He’s written and co-written music for acts like Sugarland, James Blunt, Train, Howie Day, Missy Higgins, Debbie Harry and Josh Radin. He also wrote “Beathless,” the Better Than Ezra song that Taylor Swift covered for the Hope For Haiti benefit album (and a song that she busts out within her sets from time to time.)
