Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds is seen attending the 11th Annual International Film Festival in Burbank, California on Sept. 8, 2019. The Grammy winner showed off his cool style in a black leather bomber jacket, sunglasses and an LA Dodgers cap.
Kenneth Edmonds, known in the music industry as Babyface, was born on April 10, 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a young boy, he became inspired to write music after losing his father to cancer in the eighth grade. He earned his nickname Babyface from legendary funk musician Bootsy Collns, who he played with in the ’70s. He went on to play keyboards in funk group Deele, alongside Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who would later become his partner in LaFace records. Babyface rose to prominence as a producer in the early 1990s, playing a substantial role in the sound of R&B music from the era. Notably, he was the mastermind behind Toni Braxton’s debut, writing hit songs for her debut album Toni Braxton and follow-up Secrets. He also served as executive producer on TLC’s second album CrazySexyCool and on Usher’s early works. Babyface has won 11 Grammy Awards throughout his career, in addition to receiving a number of other professional accolades.
