Kate Winslet is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation. She became an international star after playing Rose in Titanic, a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination and cemented her place in Hollywood. She went on to star in a wide range of critically praised films and won her first Oscar for her performance as Hanna Schmitz in The Reader.

Outside of her acting career, Kate is a devoted mother of three. She married her first husband, Jim Threapleton, in 1998, and they welcomed daughter Mia in 2000 before divorcing in 2001. Kate later married Sam Mendes in 2003, and the former couple share a son, Joe, born that same year. After their split in 2011, Kate married Edward Abel Smith in 2012, and they welcomed their son Bear Blaze in 2013.

In recent years, both of Kate’s adult children have followed creative paths of their own. Her daughter Mia has pursued acting, appearing in projects like Shadows and taking on lead roles in films in 2025. Her son Joe has also stepped into the spotlight; in 2025 he wrote the screenplay for Goodbye June, the Christmas family drama that marks Kate’s feature directorial debut — and the two even walked the red carpet together at the film’s premiere.

Throughout her life, Kate has prioritized giving her children a grounded upbringing, and she has pushed back against labels like “nepo baby” when applied to them.
