His mom took him to NYC to get an agent when he was 15 and made his off Broadway debut a year later. He acted in high school musicals. He got his big break in 1997 when he was cast as the lead in the pilot for ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ playing Dawson Leery. The show debuted on the WB network in 1998 and made him an instant hearthrob. It ran for six seasons and made James a worldwide star. He starred in the teen football film ‘Varsity Blues’ in 1999 and was later named to People’s 50 Most Beautiful list. He later appeared on the WB’s ‘One Tree Hill’ in a recurring arc. James starred as a version of himself on the ABC sitcom ‘Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.’ He gained a new set of fans starring in Viceland’s ‘What Would Diplo Do’ where he played an exaggerated version of the famous DJ, which can be seen on Hulu. James is currently competing on season 28 of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ partnered with Emma Slater. He was married to actress Heather McComb from 2003-2009. He married Kimberly Brook on August 1, 2010 and the couple went on to have five children — four daughters and one son.
