Dan Stevens is an English actor. He became big news when he started portraying Matthew Crawley in the popular ITV period drama series Downton Abbey, which ran from the year 2010 to 2015. Matthew Crawley was a middle-class distant cousin of the Crawleys who became the heir to the estate, and subsequently moves to Downton, where he has trouble assimilating because of cultural differences.
Matthew’s life changed so much after miraculously recovering from his paralysis (which happened during World War I). He married his lover, Mary, in 1920, and then had a baby boy (named George) with her a year later.
Other roles he has played include David in the thriller film ‘The Guest’ (2014), Sir Lancelot in ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ (2014), The Beast/Prince in Disney’s live action adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2017), and Charles Dickens in ‘The Man Who Invented Christmas’ (2017).
