Miami Dolphins’ Chad Ochocinco seen sporting his namesake number 85. He had his last name changed from Johnson to Ochocinco — Spanish for 85 — during his nine years with the Cincinnati Bengals. On July 23, 2012 in an appearance at the Broward County Courthouse, he had his last name legally changed back to Johnson.
As his name fun proved, Chad is a colorful character both on and off the field. He was a wide receive for the Bengals from 2001-2010, known for talking smack against defenders. He also became prolific on social media channels during that time, often holding live sessions and interacting directly with fans.
Chad played one season for the New England Patriots in 2011, where he saw little playing time but still managed to walk away with a Super Bowl ring. He was released by the team in June 2012, and picked up four days later by the Miami Dolphins.
Chad began dating ‘Basketball Wives’ star Evelyn Lozada in 2010. The couple married on July 4, 2012 on the Caribbean island of St. Martin. Five weeks later on Aug. 11, Chad was arrested and charged with domestic battery for allegedly head butting Evelyn during an arugment. A day later the Fins dropped Johnson, during a conversation with actually appeared on the 2012 season of HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks.’
Evelyn filed for divorce from Chad on Aug. 14, 2012, and it was finalized almost five weeks later on Sept. 19. Two days later Chad pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery and received a year’s probation.
