Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr is the pride of Mobile, Alabama. He’s an American professional stock car racing driver, known best for competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series. He started racing in the Bandolero and Legends car racing series, as well as local late model events, at age 9. In 2010, he began competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, a regional and devlopmental series. He drove as part of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program and won his very first race in the series at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. He won the series’ Rookie of the Year award, making him the first Black driver to claim such an accolade. In 2012, he made his debut in the Xfinity series, and a year later, he began driving in the NASCAR truck series. In October 2013, he became the first Black driver to win one of NASCAR’s national series since 1963, taking the checkered flag at the Camping World Truck Series Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. In 2017, Bubba made his debut in the top NASCAR series. He took over for injured Aric Almirola in the No. 43 car for Richard Petty Motorsports. He was given the ride full-time in 2018 after Aric departed RPM. He became the first Black driver to have a full-time ride in NASCAR since Wendell Scott in 1971.
