Anderson Cooper was born in New York City on June 3, 1967, and is the son of artist, actress and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt and writer Wyatt Emory Cooper. Throughout his life, Anderson has spoken openly about personal tragedy, including the death of his father at age 50 and the loss of his brother, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper, in 1988.

Over the years, Anderson became one of television’s most recognizable journalists through his work at CNN, where he has hosted Anderson Cooper 360° since 2003. He also spent nearly two decades as a correspondent for CBS’ 60 Minutes before officially signing off from the program in May 2026. In addition to his reporting career, Cooper has hosted specials, written bestselling books and become known for co-hosting CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve broadcast with Andy Cohen.

Cooper publicly came out as gay in 2012. He welcomed his first son, Wyatt Morgan Cooper, via surrogate in April 2020, and later welcomed his second son, Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper, in February 2022. Anderson co-parents both children with his former partner Benjamin Maisani.
