90s Country Stars: Then & Now — Howdy partners! While Nashville keeps the new country artists coming, there’s nothing like a classic. The 90s had their fair share of country crossover stars, many of whom are still going platinum and selling out shows to this day.

Here is the lovely Faith Hill. The ‘Breathe’ singer is one of the most successful recording artists of all time, with over 40 million albums sold worldwide. She was an instant success with her first two albums ‘Take Me as I Am’ (1993) and ‘It Matters to Me’ (1995) before 1998’s ‘Faith’ introduced her to an even bigger audience. Faith has won five Grammy Awards and 15 Academy of Country Music Awards. She’s been married to fellow country star Tim McGraw since 1996.

Shania Twain — Let’s go girls! Shania Twain wasn’t an immediate star. Her first album in 1993 flopped but that didn’t stop her from becoming the best-selling female artist in country music history, with over 100 million albums sold. The five-time Grammy winner’s 90s hits include “Man, I Feel Like A Woman”, “(If You’re Not in It for Love) I’m Outta Here!”, and “You’re Still The One”.

Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw — Tim McGraw’s 1993 debut didn’t take off, but his second album, ‘Not a Moment Too Soon’, was the best-selling country album of 1994. He’s since had 10 albums hit number one on the Top Country Albums charts and earned 3 Grammys. The hubby of Faith Hill has also dabbled in acting, appearing in ‘The Blind Side’, ‘Friday Night Lights’, and more.

Leanne Rimes — Leanne Rimes was just 13 when she broke onto the scene in 1993 with ‘Blue’. The two-time Grammy winner has sold over 37 million records worldwide.

The Chicks

The Chicks — The Chicks (formerly known as the Dixie Chicks) have always marched to the beat of their own drum. The quirky country trio was founded in the late 80s but it wasn’t until a few lineup changes and other tweaks that they found success with “There’s Your Trouble” and “Wide Open Spaces” in 1998. The ladies have often stoked controversy for their liberal-leaning political views, outspoken critics of President George W. Bush and President Donald Trump.

Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks — Garth Brooks was at the height of his fame in the 90s, releasing chart-toppers like “Friends In Low Places,” “American Honky-Tonk Bar Association”, “To Make You Feel My Love”, and more. He would step away from the stage in 2001 for personal reasons, not touring again until 2014. In 2020, he had the honor of playing the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

Rascal Flatts

Rascal Flatts — While Rascal Flatts might make you think of taking a joyride, they were successful far before 2008’s “Life Is A Highway”. The trio, which is made up of were Gary LeVox (lead vocals), Jay DeMarcus (bass guitar, background vocals), and Joe Don Rooney (lead guitar, background vocals, started making Christian music together in the late 1990s and released their first album at the cusp of the Millenium. Their first hit “Prayin’ for daylight” was followed by “These Days”, “Mayberry” and more. Rascal Flatts disbanded in 2021.

Brooks & Dunn — Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn were an instant match when they teamed up in 1990. They released 50 singles, of which 20 went to number one on the Hot Country Songs charts, like “Brand New Man”, “She’s Not The Cheatin’ King”, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and more.
