Monique Samuels is about to start 2021 with a clean slate, after seemingly announcing that she is leaving The Real Housewives of Potomac following an explosive fifth season. After the third installment of the RHOP season five reunion special on December 27, Monique, 37, took to her Instagram Live and seemingly revealed that she is done with the show. “I’m over it,” she shared in an excerpt from her Live session.
“So, when the hate becomes real…I’m over it,” she continued. Monique then got personal during her time with fans, assuring them, “My husband and I are in a position where we don’t really need for anything. I’m blessed, I’m grateful; that’s not me bragging that’s just me being absolutely 100,” she said. But there was more to her reason for potentially parting ways with the Bravo reality TV show.
“If my kids were to get older and say they watched everything and they watched the show and they watched the different things happening behind the scenes what response can I give them,” she posed to her fans. Monique also went on to share that she had been “gaslit” during her time on the show. Subsequently, the reality TV star insinuated that perhaps it was time to make her exit, throwing a peace sign at one point in the video.
Monique’s Instagram Live session comes just after the season five reunion, where footage featured the highly anticipated altercation between Monique and her co-star Candiace Dillard. The fight was one of the most explosive the Housewives franchise has likely ever seen. The altercation, which occurred during the ladies’ trip to a winery, involved hair-pulling, glass breaking, and crew members and Housewives cast members alike trying to diffuse the intense situation.
Eventually, the two women had to be separated from each other. During the December 27 reunion, Monique also tried to explain to Candiace why she reacted the way that she did after Candiace waved a finger in Monique’s face. Monique explained that the action was very triggering for her, taking her back to how her father used to put her down when she was younger. It’s a trauma that Monique has been working on in therapy.
“That fight wasn’t about you,” Monique said to Candiace during the reunion. “Nothing that you said in that moment warranted the response you received, and I offer you my apology. I’m sorry for the pain that you’re still going through, and I hope you’re able to heal and move forward.”
Monique has been a longtime cast member on RHOP. She joined the series in 2017 for the show’s second season and has remained a mainstay of the Potomac cast ever since. But after that explosive fight between the two women, it seems that the reality TV star might be ready to end her relationship with the show.
