It’s unclear exactly what time the video was taken, but it shows police boats circling around the scene of Jose‘s death with the boat still sitting overturned on the rocks. Authorities revealed that the boat was actually discovered around 3:30 a.m. ET, so it’s likely this footage wasn’t from the actual moment when the boat was found as the sun is beginning to come up in the video. But clearly the area around where the crash occurred was so intense that authorities couldn’t get everything cleaned up right after finding the boat. Watch the haunting video below:

Jose, 24, and two of his friends (who are unnamed for the time being) were out on the boat in Government Cut, Florida, on Sept. 24 when something apparently went wrong and they crashed into the rocks that ultimately killed all three of them. Once the boat and the bodies were found, it was determined that speed had something to do with the accident. Prior to autopsies being performed on the three men, police said there was no indication of drugs or alcohol.

The news of Jose’s sudden death was a tragedy for the Miami Marlins and Major League Baseball alike, as he was one of the most promising pitchers in the game. He had delivered perhaps the best performance of his career just four days before his untimely passing, pitching eight shutout innings against the Washington Nationals. Making matters even more heartbreaking, Jose had just revealed that he was expecting a baby with his girlfriend, Carla Mendoza, around the same time. We can only imagine the devastation Jose’s teammates, fans, and loved ones are feeling, and our hearts go out to them during such a difficult time.
