“My heart goes out to anyone who was lucky enough to know Alexis,” Courteney Cox tweeted on Sept. 11. “We will love and miss you forever.” The Friends star was married to Alexis’ brother, David Arquette, from 1999 until their separation in 2010, although their divorce wasn’t finalized until May 2013.
However, Courteney and David have an adorable daughter together, Coco, 12, and they’ve remained close as co-parents and friends since their breakup. Alexis was obviously part of Courteney’s life for years, as well as her daughter’s, so it was only right that she paid tribute to the late actress in such a sweet way.
The transgender actress died at just 47 years old on Sept. 11, and although no cause of death has been confirmed, it’s reported that she was battling an illness at the time of her passing. She was surrounded by David, their sister, Patricia Arquette, and other family members when she tragically died far too young. “I am immensely grateful that it was fast and painless,” Alexis’ brother, Richmond, wrote. “It was an incredibly moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward.”
“Thank you all for your love and kind words about Alexis,” David tweeted. “My hero for eternity.” Patricia also honored her sister by posting some of her favorite songs on Twitter. Our thoughts are with the actors and the Arquette siblings, Patricia, David, Richmond and Rosanna, as they grieve their late sister.
